Dr. Brian, National Consultant for Disease Information and Laboratory Management System attached to United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, met Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Muhammad Masood Anwar.
Other experts of Food and Agriculture Organization Dr. Muhammad Afzal and Dr. Naveed Niazi were also present. During the meeting, bilateral issues regarding the diagnosis and control of diseases in the livestock department were discusses.
On this occasion, Secretary Livestock said that they welcome the recommendations of experts about disease information and laboratory management system.
The recommended system will help in timely diagnosis, treatment and control of diseases. Secretary Livestock said that ADRS-info app has been introduce for disease reporting and surveillance through which comprehensive data is being compile.
He said that authentic data is indispensable for formulating strategies for disease control. Secretary Livestock also said that the Department of Livestock Punjab wants to cooperate with all stakeholders so that better production from cattle is possible and the sector in the country’s economy. The role of livestock can become more prominent.
Later, the experts visited the Directorate General (Extension). Director General (Extension) Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Shahid gave a briefing about all the activities of the Livestock Department. The experts of the Food and Agriculture Organization also visited the various sections of the Provincial Diagnostic Laboratory and the Veterinary Research Institute. Dr. Sajjad Hussain, Director General (Research) at the Veterinary Research Institute gave a detailed briefing about the disease reporting and surveillance system and inspected the real-time disease reporting system.
Food and Agriculture Organization experts while inspecting the virtual governance system 9211 and ADRS-info said that this system is exemplary for disease reporting and monitoring of services provided to livestock. Additional Secretary (Technical), Additional Secretary (Admin), Director Animal Disease Reporting and Surveillance and other officers of the department also participated during this visit.
