Increasing Milk Yield, Adopt Modern Techniques

increasing Milk Yield

According to a livestock expert, livestock farmers should use modern farming techniques to boost their milk production and compete in the market.

Dr. Anwaar, the district director of the livestock department, told APP that small farmers were struggling to survive because they were reluctant to adopt contemporary farming practices.

He believed that the farmer should either possess technical knowledge himself or “accept guidance and support of our department.” Farmers could receive free services from the livestock department, such as treatment, vaccinations, and breed improvement. In addition, he added, the farmers might get in touch with us for advice on lowering their feeding and production costs.

Dr. Anwaar stated that the cost of producing milk for small farmers was approximately Rs. 95 per liter, while the cost for large farmers was approximately Rs. 65 per liter, and the selling price in the district is Rs. 120 per liter.

According to him, it was difficult for farmers who relied on paid labour to survive in these conditions.

He emphasized how the recent flooding in the region had a negative impact on the district’s milk production, which fell from 140,000 to 90,000 liters per day.

By giving their cattle an appropriate habitat, Dr. Anwaar advised farmers to concentrate on enhancing their breeds, hay, and silage, which would assist boost milk production. In addition, he added, farmers should keep in constant communication with the livestock division to receive advice on various illnesses and immunizations. APP
