After the increase in chicken prices on the part of farmers and vendors suffering the brunt of the government’s action, The poultry association on Friday warned of embarking on a shutter-down strike in Karachi.
The association has scheduled a meeting for this evening (Friday), when it is anticipated that the strike decision will be made.
According to the officials, the government fines chicken dealers who are required to sell the meat at a specific price set by the organisation rather than farmers who sell their animals for a greater price.
They noted that the farmers’ end, not the sellers’, is to blame for the price increase.
The price of chicken has just increased, and it is now being offered for Rs800 per kilogram.
According to the president of the poultry association, action against the farmers must be made as soon as possible to get the price of meat in Karachi as close to affordable as possible.
